Church Vision for 2010

To Love God, Love Each Other, and Love the World Around Us

Enlarge the Place of Your Tent

Isaiah 54:2 Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.

The five main areas that we have emphasised over the last few years have been: Fellowship, Outreach, Worship, Discipleship and Ministry. Since they are so important to the structure of our church, it makes sense to keep emphasising them so that we can go from strength to strength.

Isaiah 54:2 tells us to enlarge, stretch, lengthen and strengthen our tent. The tent naturally is our church, so it makes sense for us to see how we can enlarge and strengthen it.  It was God who was speaking prophetically through the prophet. We need to have a collective purpose and hope that God really does want to bless our church and all our individual parts to bring about the purposes of God.

Building Bigger People
Isaiah 54:2 is about growth and enlargement. We believe that God wants us to have a bigger church. The way that we do that will be by growing bigger people; an important area of last year's vision. This can only be achieved if we equip and nurture people so that they can grow into mature believers.

Everybody in Ministry
Another important step in Building Bigger People is to help release people into their God given ministry. Pastor Paul Meiklejohn wrote last year.

“There are many competent and able people in the fellowship who are not being used to their potential.  We need to develop a more effective process of how to select and train and release those people.  People should be serving in some capacity within a few months of regular attendance.  If we don’t use people, we will eventually lose them.  There is a strong argument to help people identify their ministry gifts and then get them involved.”

Although this was the first year that we had introduced this concept as part of our vision we still have a long way to go to achieving our goals. This year we will take a step closer to achieving those plans.
